How-to repair scratches on the dome of underwater camera housing
Many underwater camera housings manufactures use large acrylic domes as lens ports. They do this because the material is easier to work with then glass and a lot cheaper and is shatter resistant, The down site is that it scratches easily.
Most minor scratching does not show up when shooting photo or video while being submerged. Deeper scratches on the other hand will. One bump against a rock, or boat ladder and you can have a nasty scratch. Replacement domes can be quite expensive. An Ikelite dome can easily cost you $500.
